The Cellist's Chair

The chair should be of a size so that both of the student's feet can rest flat on the floor. Stools are available for younger students. The stool pictured below can be purchased at Ikea.

If the instrument is the correct size, the endpin is adjusted properly and student is sitting in an appropriate chair, their knees can rest comfortably against the side of the lower bouts, and the base of the cello neck contacts the student's body near their sternum.

Cellos should have fine tuners on each string. Many professional cellists keep the fine tuners, so there is no reason for a student cello to have fine tuners only on one or two strings.

Cellists need to have an endpin stopper, for playing on hard surfaces. There are several types available. I prefer the type that anchor onto the leg of the cellists' chair like the one pictured below.
