Shifting to Thumb Position on the Cello
This movie demonstrates shifting from first to fourth to thumb position on the cello to play a D major scale. Notice how the thumb comes out of the neck block to play the A harmonic, and goes back into the neck block to secure the hand when shifting back. Thumb position will be discussed in more detail in the section on Advanced Skills.
