Shifting in Context for the Violin
This movie provides some examples of shifting in context. The first example is shifting from first to third position on the violin in a D major scale. This is an ascending Class 4 shift (from a higher finger to lower finger), in this case 2 to 1. The second example is shifting from first to third to fifth position in a G major scale. The third example is shifting to high positions on the E string in a passage from the Barber Violin Concerto. The fourth example is shifting on the G string in a passage from Monti's Czardas.
