This movie demonstrates an exercise for shifting. Place the first finger on a string in 1st position. Shift to and from every pitch in the chromatic scale. These are Class 2 shifts. Notice the smooth connected motion of the hand. The thumb moves with the hand as it shifts up and down the neck. This shifting exercise should be practiced on all four strings. With different fingers.
