Classes of Shifts

Class 1

Shifting from an open string to any note.

Class 2

Shifting on same finger ex. 1-1.

Class 3

Shifting from a low finger# to a higher finger # going up, or vice versa when downshifting. This may be trained by an exercise like 1-1-3

Class 4 (Compression shifts)

Start on higher finger # going to lower finger #. ex. 3-1. Slide on the transport finger

Class 5

Extension shifts-hand is more than one position at the same time.
