Bows and Rosin

The bow can be thought of as an extension of the string players right arm. Choosing a bow is a highly personal matter. Players needs to find a bow with the appropriate weight, balance, and flexibility to permit them to easily articulate and produce the optimum sound on their instrument. Quality bows are traditionally made from pernambuco or brazilwood. Carbon fiber bows are becoming increasingly popular.

The bow has a huge effect on the sound of an instrument. Most experts recommend selecting an instrument first, and then finding a bow that really sounds good with the instrument. For this reason, most quality shops will allow the player to try many different bows when making a bow selection.
