Amati

The violin emerged in its definitive form between 1520 and 1550 in northern Italy. Andrea Amati was the first of the great violin makers. The first four string violin made by Amati that is dated is labeled 1555. This is one of a group of seven Andrea Amati violins,
now at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, made in 1558.
